Temporary CCTV Cameras To Be Deployed for Good Life Marathon

Victoria, BC –As with previous events, we will be deploying temporary cameras in support of our operations to ensure public safety during this year’s Good Life Marathon, on Sunday, October 13, 2019.

As always, we are deploying these temporarily placed, monitored cameras in public spaces in accordance with B.C. and national privacy legislation. The cameras are going up in the next two days and will be taken down a short time after the event. Temporary signs will also be posted to ensure that those in the area are aware.

Victoria, BC – Investigators have released a video and description of a suspect in two arsons in early September.

The suspect is sought in connection to two fires in garbage receptacles that occurred within two hours of each other on September 17 th , 2019.

Victoria Fire Department firefighters responded to the first fire that was set in a City of Victoria garbage receptacle in the 900-block of Yates Street just after 1:38 a.m. on September 17 th . That fire was extinguished. No one was injured.

Officers Cite 74 Distracted Drivers In September Blitz

Victoria, BC – Officers wrote 74 tickets to drivers who were using an electronic device behind the wheel during a plain-clothes operation that targeted distracted driving throughout the month of September.

Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of death and injury on B.C. roads. In an effort to help make our roads safer, the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General and ICBC provided support for focussed distracted driving enforcement this past month.

Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

Victoria, BC – A man who is a suspect in a Saturday bank robbery, and who was wanted on warrants for similar offences in the West Shore, has been arrested.

Investigators were called to a bank in the 1000-block of Douglas Street on Saturday, September 28 th just after 11 a.m. for a report of a robbery. Witnesses indicated that the male suspect produced a note and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was physically injured in the robbery.
